How to Prep Your Butt for Swimsuit Season: A 4-Week Countdown

📅 May 21, 2026⏱ 8 minBy The Becky Team

★ TL;DR

Week 1: foundation routine (cleanse, 2 scrubs, hydrate). Week 2: add 10% niacinamide or lactic acid lotion daily. Week 3: up to 3 scrubs + night body oil. Week 4: maintain, no new products. 2 days before: final scrub. Day before: hydrate only. Day of: confidence.

Four weeks is the magic window. Long enough to see real change, short enough to stay motivated. Whether it's a beach trip, a wedding, a honeymoon, or just the first warm day, this plan gets the skin between your hips swimsuit-ready without hype.

The honest expectations

In 4 weeks of consistent routine, you can:

  • Visibly smooth texture (KP, buttne bumps, rough patches)
  • Clear active folliculitis breakouts
  • Even out skin slightly on tone
  • Reduce inflammation and redness

You can't, in 4 weeks:

  • Fade years-old dark spots completely (needs 8–16+ weeks)
  • Eliminate cellulite (it's structural, not topical)
  • Make stretch marks disappear (fade, yes; disappear, no)

If your starting point is rough or insecure-feeling, you'll be at significantly better by week 4. That's a real outcome.

The 4-week plan

Week 1: Foundation

Goal: Establish the routine. Let skin acclimate.

  • Daily: Cleanse with a medicated body wash (salicylic acid 2% or benzoyl peroxide 4–6%). 60-second contact time.
  • Mon, Thu: Becky's Booty Scrub in the shower. Damp skin, 30–60 sec, rinse.
  • Daily after shower: Body lotion to damp skin within 60 seconds.
  • Lifestyle: Cotton underwear. Change out of sweaty workout clothes within 30 minutes. No picking.

Week 1 result: Skin starts feeling softer. New buttne bumps slow. No dramatic visual yet.

Week 2: Add the tone layer

Goal: Start fading existing dark spots and PIH.

  • Continue week 1 cleanse + scrub + hydrate rhythm
  • Add daily: A 10% niacinamide body lotion OR a 10–12% lactic acid lotion (AmLactin) — pick one. Niacinamide if your skin is sensitive or you have deeper tone. Lactic acid if you have a lot of KP texture.
  • If you shave or wax, do it after Monday's scrub. Then no scrubbing for 48 hours.

Week 2 result: Texture is visibly improving. Active buttne mostly calm. Dark spots beginning to fade.

Week 3: Push the routine

Goal: Maximum smoothness, minimum redness.

  • Scrub up to 3x weekly (Mon, Wed, Sat) if your skin is tolerating it. Back off if skin is red or stinging.
  • Continue daily tone-fading lotion
  • Add: A hydrating body oil (rosehip, squalane, or jojoba) at night after lotion. Layer moisture.
  • Drink more water than normal. Hydrated skin reflects light better and reads as more even-toned in photos.

Week 3 result: Significantly smoother. Subtle tone evening. Skin reflecting light better.

Week 4: Maintenance + polish

Goal: Lock in the work. Show up confident.

  • Continue 2–3x weekly scrub. Don't add anything new in week 4.
  • Daily tone-fading lotion + hydration
  • 3 days before the event: Light shave/wax (if you do). Do not exfoliate within 24 hours.
  • 2 days before: Final scrub session. Hydrate generously.
  • Day before: No exfoliation. Just hydration, hydration, hydration. Apply body oil to damp skin after shower.
  • Day of: Light hydrating lotion. If you're using a self-tanner, apply 24–48 hours before, not the morning of.

Week 4 result: Confident, swimsuit-ready skin.

The bonus moves (optional)

Self-tanner application

Self-tanner sticks better to smooth skin. Always exfoliate before applying (not after — you'll scrub off the color). Apply 24–48 hours before the event, not the day of, so any orange undertones develop properly.

Build glute strength

Four weeks of hip thrusts and glute bridges (10 minutes, 3x weekly) will visibly change the shape of your butt. Not skincare, but the most underrated swimsuit prep move there is. Cellulite looks less visible when the muscle underneath is engaged.

Posture and lighting

Beach photo aesthetics are 50% lighting (golden hour = forgiving), 30% posture (engage your core, shift weight to one leg), and 20% skin. Don't obsess.

What NOT to do in week 4

  • Don't try a new product in the final week. Bad reactions don't have time to calm.
  • Don't get a chemical peel within 7 days. Peeling skin = visible flaking.
  • Don't aggressively wax the day before. Inflammation needs 48+ hours to settle.
  • Don't tan in a UV bed. Wrong on every level (skin damage, accidental burns visible under swimsuit, PIH long-term).
  • Don't skip lotion, ever. Dry skin reads as ashy and uneven in photos.

The packing list for the event

  • Travel-size Becky scrub for a mid-trip touch-up (it'll fit in your toiletries bag)
  • Travel hydrating body lotion (sample-size niacinamide if you've been using one)
  • SPF 30+ for any sun exposure — PIH is UV-sensitive
  • Cotton underwear for the flight/drive
  • An attitude that says "the work is done; now I just enjoy it"

FAQ

I have 2 weeks, not 4. Can I still see results?

Yes — just compressed. Run weeks 1–2 as a single faster track: cleanse + 3 scrubs + daily niacinamide for 14 days. You'll see meaningful texture improvement. Won't fully address tone or stubborn bumps.

What if I have a wedding, not a beach trip?

Same routine. Brides typically run the full 4-week plan (often 8–12 weeks for a final "glow"). Photos will pick up any uneven skin under a strapless dress — it's worth the lead time.

Can I scrub the day of the event?

No — wait 24–48 hours after your last scrub. Same-day scrubbing can leave skin red or sensitive.

Will this work for my partner?

Yes — the routine works for all bodies. Butt skincare is gender-neutral.

I have one stubborn dark spot that won't fade in 4 weeks. What now?

Don't sweat one spot. Most people have something. PIH takes 8–16 weeks. Continue the routine; it'll keep fading after the event. See our PIH guide for the longer timeline.

The bottom line

Four weeks of cleanse → scrub 2–3x → daily tone-fader → hydration gets the average butt to confident-swimsuit territory. Save the 4-week countdown in your calendar app, set the reminder, do the work, show up.
