Cellulite on the Butt: What Actually Works (and What's a Marketing Lie)
★ TL;DR
Cellulite is STRUCTURAL (connective tissue + fat pattern), not a skin problem. No topical product cures it. What actually works: glute muscle building, acoustic wave therapy ($1500+), subcision surgery, prescription retinoids long-term. Most 'anti-cellulite' products are marketing. Becky improves surface texture making existing cellulite less prominent but doesn't 'cure' it.
Quick honest disclaimer: we sell a butt scrub that might make your butt skin look smoother, but it will not "cure cellulite." Nothing topical does. We're going to tell you what does work, what doesn't, and how to think about this.
What cellulite actually is
Cellulite is not a skin problem. It's a structural pattern of how fat cells sit between bands of connective tissue (fibrous septae) under your skin. When those bands pull down while fat cells push up, you get the dimpled "orange peel" or "cottage cheese" appearance on the surface.
Three things contribute to whether it shows up:
- Connective tissue architecture — women's septae run vertically (perpendicular to skin), creating dimples when stretched. Men's septae run criss-cross, which is why men rarely get cellulite. Genetic.
- Fat distribution — estrogen directs fat to butts and thighs, where the vertical septae pattern is strongest
- Skin thickness — thinner skin shows underlying structure more obviously
This is why 80–90% of women have it. Including women you think don't have it.
What doesn't work (despite the marketing)
This is most products. Be skeptical of these claims:
- "Anti-cellulite cream" that promises elimination. No topical product can change connective tissue architecture or fat distribution. The FDA has cracked down on these claims; many brands now say "reduces the appearance" — which is much vaguer.
- Dry brushing as a cure. Increases circulation temporarily; doesn't change structure.
- Cellulite massage tools without exercise. The massage feels good but doesn't fix anything structural.
- Caffeine creams as cellulite cure. Caffeine temporarily dehydrates fat cells, making them slightly smaller for hours. Stops working when you stop applying. Marketing as cellulite "treatment" is misleading.
- Body wraps and "cellulite detox". Lose water weight, gain it back the next day. Detox is not a real concept.
- Cupping for cellulite. Creates bruise-like marks. No evidence it reduces cellulite long term.
What actually does work (evidence-backed)
1. Building glute muscle
This is the most effective single intervention. Larger, denser glute muscles fill out the space under the skin, smoothing the surface above. Squats, hip thrusts, glute bridges, deadlifts. Not magic but the most consistent thing in clinical literature on "reduced cellulite appearance."
2. Acoustic wave therapy (AWT)
In-office treatment using sound waves to break up septae and stimulate collagen. Real evidence: 30–60% improvement after 6–8 sessions. Expensive ($1,500–3,000 per treatment series). Not permanent — needs maintenance.
3. Cellfina / Subcision (surgical)
FDA-cleared procedure where individual septae are cut to release dimples. Permanent for the treated dimples. Expensive ($3,000–6,000). Best for severe, defined dimples.
4. Radiofrequency + microneedling (Profound, Morpheus8)
In-office treatments that stimulate collagen formation and tighten skin. Modest improvement on cellulite. Better evidence for sagging skin than cellulite specifically.
5. Retinoids (long-term)
Topical retinoids (tretinoin) used consistently for 6+ months can thicken the dermis, making cellulite less visible. Real but modest effect. Prescription. Not pregnancy-safe.
6. Weight management + hydration + protein
Maintaining a stable, healthy body composition matters more than chasing a target weight. Sudden weight loss can make cellulite look worse temporarily. Adequate protein and water support skin elasticity.
What Becky's scrub does (and doesn't)
Does:
- Smooths surface skin texture so light reflects more evenly
- Increases local circulation during use, temporarily plumping skin
- Fades surface discoloration that can make cellulite areas look worse
- Improves overall skin tone and feel
Doesn't:
- Change the underlying septae structure
- Reduce fat cells
- "Cure" cellulite
We won't tell you a $20 scrub will eliminate cellulite, because it won't. We will tell you that smoother, more even surface skin makes the cellulite that exists look less prominent under most lighting conditions. That's a real effect. It's not a miracle.
The body-positive piece
You almost certainly think your cellulite is more visible than anyone else does. The lighting in your bathroom is way harsher than the lighting at a beach, at a hotel, in someone's bedroom. Other people are not looking at your butt under fluorescent light from a 45° angle.
If you want to treat cellulite, the options above are real. But if you've been spending money on "miracle creams" for years and they haven't worked — they're not going to. Spend it on something that actually works (acoustic wave therapy or muscle building) or on something that doesn't try to make you hate your body.
FAQ
Does diet affect cellulite?
Marginally. Hydration helps skin elasticity. Adequate protein supports collagen. Reducing high-sodium foods reduces water retention that can temporarily worsen appearance. Crash diets often make cellulite look worse.
Why did my cellulite get worse?
Aging thins skin and reduces collagen, making underlying cellulite more visible. Weight loss can make existing cellulite appear more prominent. Pregnancy and postpartum hormone changes shift fat distribution. None of these mean you did something wrong.
Do men get cellulite?
Rarely — about 10% of men. Their connective tissue runs crisscross instead of vertical, so even if fat sits in the same places, the dimpling pattern doesn't form the same way.
Is cellulite a sign of poor health?
No. Lean, fit, athletic women have cellulite. It's structural, not metabolic.
Will losing weight get rid of my cellulite?
Sometimes makes it less visible (less fat pushing against septae). Sometimes makes it more visible (looser skin, less filling underneath). Depends on individual structure. There's no rule.
Does Becky help with cellulite specifically?
It improves surface texture and tone, which makes existing cellulite look less prominent. It doesn't address the underlying structure. Pair the scrub with glute training and you'll see meaningful surface change.
The bottom line
Cellulite is structural. Most products marketed for it don't change the structure. Things that do help: building glute muscle, acoustic wave therapy (in-office), surgical subcision for severe dimples, and time + patience. Becky improves surface texture and tone but doesn't "cure" cellulite — nothing topical does.
